Well it is finnally on record.  I started a thread on SEW Forum back on Oct 27 named Google Says Not Reporting All Backlinks to discuss Magnus Sandberg statements at SES Sweden.  It end up no one knew for sure what he said.

After I heard that Matt Cutts was following the thread I posted an invitation to both GoogleGuy and Matt Cutts to grace the thread with there comments and GoogleGuy when on record with “Google doesn’t return all backlinks in response to a link: command.” Here is what GoogleGuy said.

I just sent an email to Digital Tigers.com asking them if they would trade some of our SEO services for a few of their multi-monitor setups.  I am particularly interested in this model Triple 19” LCD’s.

If any of you guys decide to buy one of these setup be sure to let them know that I sent you, perhaps they will give me a break.  My dual 19” CRT’s just arent cutting it anymore.  :)

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to chime in for a bit and speak about the importance of the age of text links. There has long been speculation that the age of your backlinks was important.  It wasnt until recently that most SEO’s accepted the fact that Google is starting to place extra weight on older links.

Chris Weare, a MSN Search Developer, discusses the "Near Me” Search in the msnsearch weblog.  He suggests putting your address in the footer of every page in the following format, “1 Microsoft Way Redmond, WA, 98052”.  I think this entry is important for those that want to Rank well on MSN Search’s Near Me searches.

Google index shows 9,560,000,000 results when searching for the word “the” (Nov 10th).  While Googles index is really bigger, most use the word “the” as this is the word that gives the most results.  This was at 5,880,000,000 back in Oct 22.  I would say that was a BIG increase.

Update: Well it is showing 8,000,000,000 today (Nov 13) for the word “the.” I am smelling something fishy here.  Like where did the extra billion pages go that were there 3 days ago?  I am wondering if Google is doing some inflating here to steal away Microsofts claim to have the largest index on the eve for their big release?

Google increased itīs index and not by just a couple of hundreds of millions of pages,. not even by a billion pages, but by a whopping almost 4 billion pages. The index has almost doubled to over 8 BILLION pages.

There are more internet pages in their index than people on this planet. Also interesting to note is that they have many types of documents in their index, including HTML, PDF, PowerPoint, Flash, PostScript and JavaScript.

It will be interesting to see how well they are able to rank those documents. Especially javascript,.. would that mean that links in javascript now are followed? Are these links included in PageRank calculations? Time will tell.

Interesting how they always stay ahead of the competition by huge leaps. :)

You can read about it in the Google Blog. Entry for november 10.

Interesting study by goRank.com for those that still believe in optimizing on-page factores.

MSN, Yahoo, & Google Keyword Density Comparison

“For this research report, we take a look at the keyword density of on page factors for MSN’s current tech preview of their new search engine technology. We also analyzed both Yahoo and Google result keyword density again. Just like in the past, we analyzed the top ten results for single keyword, low traffic queries. We used the same keywords as in previous reports so you can easily do comparisons to past results.”

Don’t use menus like this JS Menu from allwebcodesign.com . If you noticed there is a “?” at the end of the file name.
This query string is in each menu item.  Guess what, the search engines look at about.htm? and about.htm as two different documents and Google will give them both PR.  What this means is you will have each page voting PR to a non-existent page.  Can you say PR bleed.

In reading different threads on a number of the forums I post on, I have noticed that some people have forwarded the idea that there has been a change in the PR algorithm.  This is their responce to the falling of PR on a large number of internal web pages that we have all been hearing about.

I keep a list of all or most of the PR10 pages on the internet and 37 out of 152 pages dropped from PR10 to PR9s in the last Oct 5th toolbar PR update. This is not uncommon, back after the March 16th toolbar PR update of this year it was recorded that at least 24 or more PR10 pages dropped down to PR9s.
