Observation:  the number of pages in Google’s index as indicated by their homepage display has been stuck at 4,285,199,774 since August 2003.


Observation: Googles uses a 4-byte variable for its document ID (this is built into Linux) and the maximum number of combinations it can produce is 4,294,967,296.


Possible Conclusion?: Google has run out of document IDs and is even now scrambling to re-write their software before they can add any pages to their index. This might help explain a few things such as - many sites getting dropped from the index, no PR updates in over 2 months (engineers & machines are busy with more important tasks), massive automatic penalization of sites.....

There is more fun in blogging now. Instead of displaying ads on a blog, bloggers now can display Google Adsense on their blogs and make money!

Today Google’s Adsense anounced that it will now allow 3 different ad units per page, wich is a big difference considering in the past the guidelines limited it to 1 per page.

Adsense states that this new option will allow webmasters to “further monetize” web pages and claims none of the ads will be duplicates. Also mentioned was that the ad units can all be different sizes and colors.
