Hello Everyone,

This is just a quick update for all of you who haven’t seen it yet.

Google has announced the release of a new link discovery tool.  You can now log into your Webmaster Central Account to retrieve a comprehensive list of all your backlinks.

Search Engine Land has already covered this in depth so I wont duplicate efforts here.

Rand over at SEOmoz has already run “total link count” comparisons between Yahoo’s Site Explorer and the new Google tool, and results are very promising.  Yahoo and Google are now showing similar results.

But one disclaimer for all of you professional link builders out there.  You can only view links for sites that you own, so this new tool has no value for competitive intelligence.

If anyone of you know me you probably know that I’m a huge Digg fan.  As a techno junkie I cant get enough of it.

Now Google has Teamed with Digg to provide Google users Digg results as a supplemental section of your personalized SERP pages.

This is a feature that may actually finally convince me to login to “Google Personal” on a regular basis.

Here is a link to the Digg Story http://www.digg.com/links/Digg_Google_Co-op_Now_Live_

And here is a screenshot:

By now you have probably heard that Google bought a new algorithm developed by a university student down under.

Many in the industry have speculated on what this could mean.  Will this transform Google yet again? Or, will it merely be just another piece of technology they buy but don’t appear to use.

In this article, I look at the implications of Orion and what it could mean to the future of search.

There’s been a lot of talk these past couple days about Google Desktop Search and how there are serious privacy concerns with the new application.

The biggest concern seems to come with the ability to search and share multiple computers with one account.  In other words, you could use a single desktop search account to search, index and allow you to share files between your desktop and laptop for example.

But are these concerns grounded in truth?  Is there really a privacy issue here?

Around the time Google announced “Big Daddy,” there was a new Googlebot roaming the web.  Since then I’ve heard stories from clients of websites and servers going down and previously unindexed content getting indexed.

There is an interesting story being written.  It’s a kind of David and Goliath story except both opponents are Goliaths.

The US government is trying to get Google and other search engines to turn over data from their databases.  Google is the only one to yet comply to the request.

In this article I look at what this could mean to us:  The users as well as looking at what Google is doing and the impact it will have.

That’s right, Google has been testing new infrastructure according to Matt Cutts.  While he’s careful to say that the new datacenter isn’t an algorithm change he does say that some sites will be affected by the new system

Heres the link

This could be just another Google OS rumor, but if this is true, it could represent a threat to Microsoft’s longtime domination of the retail consumer PC sector.  Another possibility is that the machine to be sold is not a full fledged PC, but some sort of consumer web appliance for surfing and email.

Google just announced that they are launching Google Web Analytics tonight.  Thats great news for a lot of people.

If you didnt know, Google bought Urchin a while back.  For the last few months they have been offering Urchin analytics for $199 per month.  We have been using it for about 6 months ourselves and love it.

Now it’s FREE!

Google has decided to make Urchin free to all their users as well as change the name to Google Analytics.

You can sign up by going to http://www.google.com/analytics or http://www.urchin.com

I feel sorry for all of the Web analytic companies out there, this is very bad news for them.
