Blog Homepage : Category - 1. Link Building Basics
Email This ArticleIt was another great couple of weeks with lots of articles focused on link building, from building link popularity in 7 days to Digg etiquette, to Secrets of a Professional Link Builder and much more.
In this issue of our bi-monthly newsletter, we will look at some of these articles and present links to the ones we thought were the best.
So, you want to build link popularity in 7 days but don’t know how to go about it? Why not check out Pat McCarthy’s article with that exact title: “Build Link Popularity In 7 Days.” In it you will learn some of the most basic rules to link building. If you are new to link building or would just like a refresher, this is a good place to start.
And once you get through that article and are thinking to yourself “what next” why not swing on over to the SEOMoz blog for a Long List of Link Searches where you will indeed find such a list, including the basics like using the engines to find links and lots of other query examples.
Of course there is always the Digg route. Now a direct link from Digg doesn’t help much because such a link doesn’t last that long, however, the fallout from a good Digg ranking is increased traffic and (hopefully) lots of links from sites who use Digg to find information. But how do you get a Digg listing? Well Stuntdubl has some tips in his article entitled “Etiquette for Submitting Stories to Digg”. It explains some important tips like having a good title and not submitting a story which has already been submitted.
Before you attempt to submit to Digg, may we suggest you check out the SEOMoz post first? The post is titled “How to Get Banned From Digg”. It suggests things you can do if you want to get banned or (most likely preferred) things to avoid so you don’t suffer the wrath of a Digg editor! Of course it’s a tongue in cheek look at the top things you can do to get banned, but if you read between the lines you can learn some valuable lessons.
Over on SearchEngineGuide, author Lisa Stewart has a great 3 part series on the “Secrets of a Professional Link Builder.” In it she explains what we all need to remember when talking about link building. Namely: Keywords, Anchor Text, and Content. You can find the 3 parts here: (part 1, part 2, and part 3.)
I know we said “top 5” articles but this one deserves an honorable mention: Joe Griffin has a good article on AGNL (you will have to click the link to see what it stands for :)
In the forums, there was a little talk about link building, but we felt this post deserved the most attention - Inbound link question – it asks a question which often frustrates many webmasters: Why isn’t Google indexing some of my back links? Many have given their opinion. Would you care to weigh in?
Free Link Opportunity of the Day:
One of the most original sites we found for adding links is the Wikidweb. This site takes the Wiki approach to link building. All you need to do is create an account and then add your domain. It’s really that simple.
From there you find the appropriate category and add it to that category. In a matter of minutes you have at least 2 really good text links.
So there you have it – the best of the link building web of the last two weeks. Be sure to keep your eyes open for our next link building newsletter!
