Tiered Approach to buying text links to increase page rank.

----- Update -----

This article was written in August 2004 and was speaking mostly about High Pagerank Monthly Links.  At the time I saw a lot of people spending massive amounts of money on monthly high PR links without any consideration of whether or not the links were actually working.  It can get real costly if you buy a lot of links and only half of them work, but you dont know which half since you bought them at the same time.  In that scenario it would be impossible to tell which links you should keep and which ones you shouldnt

It is just as good of an idea today as it was back then to build links slowly over time.  Too many links at once is a good indicator to the search engines that someone is artificially trying to inflate their rankings.

The tiered approach to buying links is a simple concept that will save you money. Buy a few links, see how they effect your rankings, and then buy a few more. If you buy tons and tons of links all at once there will be no way of knowing how many links you actually needed to get to the top of the rankings.

I spend a lot of time trying to convince people to take this approach but the addictive nature of link buying has a powerful spell and they usually have to learn it for themselves the hard way. The best advice I can give you is to take your time when buying links. Spend a few months and do it right. There is nothing to gain for any of us if you go bankrupt buying links.

In determining how many links to buy I would first do some research on how competitive your keywords are. Keywords that are less competitive require less pagerank to do well. I would also look at the pagerank of some of the top sites in your category. You’ll notice that most top sites usually have a ranking of a 6 or a 7. It usually doesn’t take more then that to get to the top. I see sites out there everyday with Pagerank of 5 or 6 that are doing better for their keywords then sites that are Pagerank 7 and 8. With all things being equal having a higher Pagerank will make a difference but just remember that “Pagerank Isn’t Everything”. I’ll talk about that in my next article.

Remember, take the time to see the results of the links you buy before buying more links. If you need help in determining a good starting point, please talk with us. Were always happy to help. The exception to this rule is if you are an experienced link buyer and understand the need for large amounts of pagerank
