Email This ArticleWell you can probably already guess that the MSN and Google news is search related, but what do Coke and Plazes have to do with today’s Daily Roundup? Well, you are about to find out.
But first to the MSN news. First is news of a contest. If you know the tricks to optimize a site best for MSN you could share in a $7,000 prize. If you aren’t interested in the contest then perhaps you be interested to know that MSN may be tracking click throughs. This should come as no surprise as all the engines are doing this now.
Now for Google: There are reports of a PageRank and backlink update going on. In addition to this I’m also seeing massive increases in indexed pages. I guess Google is going to take the “Mine is Bigger” debate to the next level in the coming days. For example, one site I regularly monitor went from 430,000 indexed pages to over 700,000 over the weekend, while other reports show sites going from 1.2 million to 4.2 million pages in the same timeframe. My guess is we’ll see that indexed pages count on Google’s homepage go up before the week is out.
In other Google news the Google Blog is announcing that Katrina imagery is available on Google Maps now. It’s pretty disturbing seeing how different New Orleans looks.
In my last bit of Google news, it didn’t take long before a mobile app was built using Google Talk. Soon you’ll be able to use the Google Talk network via your cell phone. It’s not a public download, however, so you’ll have to check with your service provider to see if and when it will be available.
Now to a new service offering taking location aware applications to a new level. Plazes.com is the latest site purporting to use your physical location to help hook you up with people and places in your area. I played with it a bit today and I’m pretty impressed. Why don’t you check it out and post your comments here?
If you are a Mac fan, you will like this. This article gives you some cool tips and tricks hidden within the new “Tiger” OS. From customization to unlocking hidden commands you are sure to learn something.
Finally, the news you’ve all been waiting for (or not...)
You can now not only buy a coke from your local coke machine but soon you’ll also be able to buy ring tones and music for your cell phone. A new UK service is about to launch partnering the well known soft drink maker with a tech company. No idea if this will be offered on this side of the pond however. One can only hope (or not… :) ).
Well that’s all my news for now, be sure to be checking your rankings as I think this current Google update is going to be a doozy.
