An adult magazine publisher called Perfect 10 is suing Google for displaying images protected under copyright without prior consent. The company is seeking an injunction against Google for displaying the images. Further, the company may seek damages from Google for allowing others to display their images on other websites and sell Google ads beside the images. To those at Perfect 10 I have a suggestion for you – research and implement a robots.txt. I also have a question – how did Google get a password in order to index the images? Cause if Google can do it without passwords I can guarantee someone else will be able to find the pictures as well.
In other Google news, Matt Cutts blog puts a long standing debate to bed. The debate over what’s better – dashes or underscores when naming pages. FYI he says Google (and probably other engines) prefer dashes. Heck I could have told you that. Not that I’m a Google engineer or anything but my experience has shown me that.
AOL has agreed to reform its customer service procedures and pay the state of New York over a million bucks because of how hard it is to leave AOL. Apparently once you become an AOL customer it’s virtually impossible to leave AOL.
In positive AOL news, a recent article on Search Engine Watch indicates that AOL News is one of the most read news sites on the web. While Yahoo! news still dominates, AOL comes in second, ahead of Google News.
Finally today, Yahoo! is taking a lot of heat for its ad system crashing after an upgrade. While the outage did affect some people, according to the Search Engine Watch forums, others were more fortunate.
