Email This ArticleFrom Ask PPC to Google’s domination to video piracy to unique tombstones, this issue of the daily roundup covers it all.
A post in the forums of WebMasterWorld indicates that Ask Jeeves sponsored listings are working well for the site. Some users are reporting higher than average click throughs and decent conversions on those clicks. It’s good to see another PPC provider out there to compete with Google and Yahoo! however it means more work for those who have to manage all these accounts.
Comscore has released new numbers showing that Google still dominates search. While this should come as no surprise, what does concern me is how the company arrived at the numbers. This is because Hitwise recently released their own numbers showing Google’s dominance, yet both sets of numbers are different. Just how different are they? Well Comscore says Google receives 36.5% of all searches submitted while Hitwise says that Google accounts for 59.2% of all searches submitted. That’s quite a difference if you ask me.
Akamai has a new feature that will measure the popularity of online news by measuring the requests made for various stories. The new service will measure the current demand for news items relative to average daily demand.
Yet another Google patent has surfaced. This one assigns “geographic location identifiers to web pages” which is a fancy way of saying if your site has an address then that must indicate where the business is located.
If you’ve ever considered taking your website global, Clickz has an excellent article on optimizing for international search. It includes some of the more popular regional search engines and how they are different from non-American search engines.
There’s an interesting post on Seth Godin’s blog on being clueless. The morale of the story is that as a business owner -whether brick and mortar, or virtual – don’t neglect your customers. The internet is not just about search engine optimization or link building, more importantly, its about marketing.
There’s a good article on Wired about video piracy. Apparently the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has been claiming that much of the video piracy out there is due to organized crime. The article then goes on to dispute this claim as more fear mongering by the RIAA.
Finally today, in case you happen to be planning your funeral, a company has just the headstone for you. A company is selling tombstones with flat screens embedded in them. Apparently there’s even a headphone jack in it. The screen is to allow visitors to the grave site to watch memorial video of the dearly departed.
I dunno that’s kinda creepy to me, but you never know, by the time I kick the bucket, that could be standard issue.
Thats all for now – go enjoy the weekend! I know I will!
