This is going to be a new feature on the site: A daily roundup of all the happenings in the SEM world.  Today we cover many topics.  From Virtual Earth’s flaws, to many new Yahoo! products, to rumors of Ask Jeeves changes.  So let’s get right into it…

MSN Virtual Earth is out.  This is the competitor to Maps.google.com and to a lesser extent Google Earth, which was also released earlier this year. Personally I like Google Earth better – its got the coolness factor, but the MSN product isn’t too bad.  Of course shortly after V Earth came out someone found a bug.  When you do a search for Apple’s Cupertino offices the building is conspicuously missing.

a New York company has perfected a new ad platform.  coming soon to an online video game near you will be streaming media ads.  The company had recently offered billboard type ads inside games, but have now moved to streaming ads.

Google has made changes to their custom homepage found at www.google.com/ig There is now more content available to display, such as People Magazine, Reuters and more, and you now have the ability to add your own feeds.  So if you wanted to add our feed, you could simply add the URL of the feed under the “create a section” area.

Motorola and Yahoo! have partnered to offer Yahoo! on new Motorola cell phones.  If you buy a phone from Motorola with web abilities you will see the Yahoo! home page, along with other Yahoo! content. This is interesting because it wasn’t too long ago that Google announced a similar partnership with T-Mobile in the US.  This just goes to show the interest the search engines have in wireless technology.

If you are familiar with Yahoo! 360, Yahoo!s social networking experiment, then you will like this.  If you have a 360 site you can now ad RSS feeds to your page, and share them just like any other 360 content.  Another interesting new feature is the ability to link to and share your Flickr photos.  I’ve been able to share feeds on my 360 page, but haven’t been able to share my Flickr photos yet.

In other Yahoo! news, it was announced today that Yahoo! and Boeing are partner to offer wi-fi internet on Boeing’s new planes.  If you use internet on one of Boeing’s planes in the future you will see a custom Boeing homepage adorned with a Yahoo! search box.

Today there was a rumor circulating that Ask may have its own PPC program by August first.  This is surprising considering their current deal with Google AdWords doesn’t end until 2007.

Along with this Paid advertising news and back to Yahoo! yet again, there are rumors circulating that the much anticipated Yahoo Publishers Network is due for an August release.  For those that don’t know, the YPN is Yahoo!s answer to Google AdSense.

And finally, for those who just gotta try all the latest gadgets and gizmos there is a new MSN screen saver with some cool features such as the ability to insert rss news and search into the screensaver.  In other words, when the screensaver kicks in you can see headlines from your favorite site.  While this may sound like a good idea at first, it got me wondering why it would display news on a screensaver?  After all, the only time my screensaver comes on is when I’m away from my computer.  Therefore what good are the news headlines, since I won’t see them?  Perhaps its so my co-workers can keep informed.

I think that’s about enough news for now, don’t you think?  But be sure to stop by tomorrow for more of the latest in SEM news.
