Email This ArticleDo Relevant Links Have More Ranking Weight or are all links created equal? It seems a lot of people have been asking this question and I have been hearing different answers.
When I was hunting PR10 pages (yes I like that full green bar so much I maintain the most complete list of PR 10 Pages on the internet) on Google one day, I ran across this quote.
On the Google Technology page it states, “So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page’s content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it’s a good match for your query.”
Now I know I may be a bit slow but let’s see. It is talking about finding pages that are important and relevant to your search and what it does to determine if a page is a good match for your query. That sure sounds like they are discussing search engine results position to me.
Then they note when they are looking for pages that match your search they not only examine the number of times a term appears on the page but they examine the “content of pages linking to it.”
Now that tells me they are search the “contents of pages linking to it” for a reason. They are not only looking at a page to see if it is “important and relevant to your search” but they are looking that the links to that page to see if the pages that are links are important and relevant.
Can you say “numerous relevant keyword anchored links,” that’s what Google is saying!
