Ticket Vendors Become Targets... Daily Round up Aug 24, 2005

Sure I have big Google news today, but I’m going to start with how ticket vendors seem to be the latest mark for search engines.

There are in fact two ticketing announcements.  News shows that AOL has purchased a ticket vendor called TicketsNow.com.  This is an interesting move for AOL, and seems very complementary to some of their other sites.  One would hope that AOL can turn some of these sites into a comprehensive online product offering.  For a better idea of some of the products AOL already owns, check this out.  You might be surprised to realize just how much AOL does own.

Shortly after I read that bit of news, another piece of news involving a ticketing company was announced.  This time it was a partnership betwee Ebay and Fandango.  Under terms of the deal we may soon see some cross promoting between the two companies.  As the news says - “EBay users looking for DVDs of family movies may also be informed of tickets available up to 45 days in advance for the next” movie.

I haven’t seen too many mentions of this yet.  On the free Yahoo! URL submit page there’s a new line that says you can create and submit a full list of your site’s URLs via an URLlist.txt file.  This is a good move for Yahoo! to make in light of the Google XML sitemaps.

Ok now on to the big news of the day – Google’s IM called Google Talk.  Probably one of the worst kept Google product secrets to date is actually quite good.  If you like simplicity and ease of use this is the product you want.  Wanna do a voice chat with another Google Talk user? Simply click on the telephone icon on the chat window and you are there.  The only drawback I can see is that, at least for now, all users need a Gmail account.  But as a regular user of Gmail I hardly find this a drawback.  I’ve been using my Gmail account like crazy and I’ve only used 4% of my total storage space (now at 2526 MB).  Sure it’s a big marketing ploy by Google – I don’t REALLY have 2500 Megs of space, but it looks good.  I wonder if anyone has gotten even close to reaching their quota?

For more information on Google Talk, check out the Google Blog.  And if you are the type of person (like me) who likes to know what the hidden gems are within the new Google products, check this link out.

That’s all for today – be sure to invite wumpus so you can have something to do tonight (you’ll have to go to that last link to understand what this means) :)
