Is google experiencing its own verson of y2k?

Observation:  the number of pages in Google’s index as indicated by their homepage display has been stuck at 4,285,199,774 since August 2003.


Observation: Googles uses a 4-byte variable for its document ID (this is built into Linux) and the maximum number of combinations it can produce is 4,294,967,296.


Possible Conclusion?: Google has run out of document IDs and is even now scrambling to re-write their software before they can add any pages to their index. This might help explain a few things such as - many sites getting dropped from the index, no PR updates in over 2 months (engineers & machines are busy with more important tasks), massive automatic penalization of sites.....
