Google Sandbox - Sites or Links?

One of the major developments of year 2004 is the introduction of Sandbox by Google. It has been one of the highly discussed subjects in recent times. Put simply, sandbox is a probation period a site has to see through, before it achieves any ranks, even for non-popular keywords.

Does Sandbox apply for sites or for links?

Lot of people say, their sites are Sandboxed. It is not right. Newly achieved links are sandboxed, not newly hosted sites. Then why this misconception? Since new websites will anyway have new links which are sandboxed, most of the new sites experience this sandbox problem. Even the older sites experience the sandbox effect for the newly generated inbound links.

As Peter Hoggan says, “Sandbox takes PR and back link credit and puts them on probation for a period of time say 2-4 months.”

Once the sites come out of the Sandbox, they start ranking for their targeted keywords like any normal website does. For many, a Google Sandbox might seem end of the world. No, at best it will only delay the ranks a site can achieve, by a couple of months. If yours is a site that is here to stay for long, should a couple of months delay really matter?
