Google takes a step back... Daily Round up Aug 12, 2005

There isn’t a lot of news today.  In fact only a couple stories.  Two of them came from blogs: One from the Google blog and one from the Yahoo! blog.  The first involves Google taking a step back after some heated debate over one of their recent product offerings.

According to the Google Blog, Google may be re-thinking its plan to index everything it can – at least in terms of print.

The company stated in their blog that while they still plan to index printed works, they are giving authors the option to opt out of the program by letting Google know which books they DON’T want indexed.

This is a good PR move for Google considering the print program was getting mixed reviews.  This should also lead the way for others, such as Amazon, who are moving into indexing printed works.

In other blog news, Yahoo! has announced the Yahoo! Search Marketing Alliances program aimed at helping SEM’s and agencies improve their online marketing.

It’s basically the same as Google’s AdWords certification program in that you study and write a test.  Once you pass the test you need to manage a few clients to get certified.  The difference seems to be that Yahoo! will offer commissions to participating SEM’s or agencies who have qualified for the program.

Finally today, I received an email from Google AdSense explaining some of the new features which are now, or soon will be, available to AdSense participants.  One thing that caught my attention (and which I promptly applied for) was AdSense for Feeds.

With this program you will be able to insert Google Ads into your blog’s XML feeds.  This is great for content publishers because many times a feed will get picked up by a reader and they will never go to your site.  Now, they can get exposed to the ads on the site as well as the feed.  It’s a great way to make a few extra bucks.

Well that’s all for this week. I hope you have a great weekend, or if you are reading this on Monday morning, I hope your weekend was a pleasant one.
