Email This ArticleWell this is refreshing isn’t it? For once the news isn’t all about Google. Sure I have lots of Google news to talk about, but today I’m going to start with Ask Jeeves.
First, let’s talk about Ask’s interest in P2P (peer to peer) file sharing. A recent blog entry indicates that Ask may be interested in Grouper – a social networking file sharing application. I guess it would be a good way to make more money for their recently released PPC ad program.
Ask has also launched more “smart answers.” According to the Search Engine Watch blog, the new answers include country quick facts, book ISBN searches, famous people and more.
A post on the MSDN blog explains that MSNbot has been busily crawling RSS feeds. So busy in fact that it’s raised the ire of some blog owners. Is MSNbot hitting your blog a lot? If your not sure, visit this MSNBC page to see if your site is listed.
Clickz says that Lycos has a new CEO. This is surprising as we haven’t heard much from Lycos since they were acquired by Daum, one of Asia’s largest ISP’s. I got the news from the new ClickZ blog.
Ok time for some Google news (you knew I had to)...
While most of the Google talk today has been speculation of will they or won’t they? Will they release the much anticipated communications client? Or are they just playing with us.
Of course there is other Google news as well - like new Gmail features allowing you to send from an account other than your Gmail account. And to top it off, there are also new AdSense features giving content creators more control over the types of ads they’d like displayed on their pages by giving cues to the AdSense system via HTML.
On another site there’s an excellent summary on how to check to see if you’ve been penalized or banned by a search engine as well as some tips on how to get re-included if you think you have been removed.
And finally today – on a lighter note: Did you ever wonder what a balloon must look like the moment it explodes? I know I have (OK not really – just trying to build it up a bit here). New photos using some really cool high speed photographic technology show the moment of impact in great detail.
Now you can sleep at night with one less mystery to worry about.
