In an effort to allow blog and guestbook owners some relief from comment spam designed to influence search engine rankings, Google recently introduced a new tag that webmasters can place on their pages to prevent GoogleBot from following links on those pages - thus hopefully eliminating the incentive for abusive comment spam.

Reactions to the announcement are mixed: , The Register and
Search Engine Watch have stories on it.

Get your landing pages ready.  Looks like it wont be very long before Google stops affiliates from directing PPC ads to the same URL as the company whos product they are promoting.  All of you Google Cash guys are going to have a fun time changeing around your campaigns.

Google recently won in in court against Geico, who was suing them to prevent Adwords from being able to show insurance ads when someone typed in the term “geico”.  Thank god they won - if they had lost it could have led to thousands of lawsuits against google and other PPC providers and could have resulted in us losing the rights to use a good portion of the English language in our advertising. After all - what word isn’t part of a copyrighted phrase nowadays?
